Your legal requirements in Honduras
What the law actually requires where you are — summarized from our jurisdiction guides. Open any topic for the full details.
Honduras workplaces must organize risk- and headcount-proportionate first-aid brigades that provide prompt aid to injured workers, under the Labor Code's occupational safety framework rather than a fixed first-aider-per-worker ratio. The rule is enforced by the Secretariat of Labor and Social Security (STSS).
No per-staff first-aid training mandate was found for childcare centers in Honduras: the 2025 Law for the Implementation of Childcare Centers and Infant Facilities creates a framework coordinated by SENAF but has no implementing regulation imposing first-aid certification on staff. Trained staff remains the expected standard even without a binding mandate.
Honduras imposes a general duty to render aid under the Penal Code (Decree 130-2017, in force since June 2020), art. 204 "Omisión del deber de socorro," covering anyone helpless and in manifest, grave danger where helping poses no risk to the rescuer or third parties. The penalty is increased by two-thirds if the bystander caused the accident.
In Honduras nursing is regulated by the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Honduras, and basic life support and CPR are described as mandatory knowledge for physicians and health staff, though no mandatory periodic recertification cycle for nursing staff was located. The expectation is met by any recognized continuing-education activity, with CPR/AED, ACLS and PALS among eligible topics.
No Honduras-specific national staffing rule for homes for the elderly and asylums was located, but the regional pattern shows a recognized caregiver or geriatric-assistant certificate incorporating first aid and CPR as the valued credential, commonly required by the facility or employer. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate, renewed periodically, meets the expectation.
Honduras's Protocolo de Familias de Protección Temporal, applied by DINAF, requires at least one applicant from each candidate family to complete a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of training, after which the family receives a certificate of participation. Current first-aid and CPR training (including pediatric CPR) is reasonably expected as part of that preparation, though not identified as an explicit legal requirement.
Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Honduras, with no explicit ban on online first-aid training for the workplace since the regulation requires organized brigades without prescribing a format. Certification is valid for 3 years and is built on the ILCOR 2025 Consensus on Science.
